GALILEO'S LEFT WING

(Ghent)

GALILEO'S LEFT WING mixes various styles, ranging from rop to improvised music, into a very personal blend of ethno-jazz. The blending of these surprising and sometimes strange ingredients, the rapid shifts of style and eclectic way of playing, sound very natural within the group. Their sound is a simple reflection of its member's vast experience across many musical domains. Luk Misholle conceives most of the material. He is a widely travelled soxophonist who has written and played music for international theatre companies, has received various grants for his music composition and is particularly active in his work with the local Moroccan community in Antwerp. This has resulted in groups like BELCIKAL, RAI EXPRESS and an eighteen piece band, MARAKBAR. He remains a member of the BLINDMAN QUARTET (seen at the Belluard in 1992), and performs regularly for an asortment of contemporary-improvised music ensembles. Dirk Wochteloer is not only the cornerstone of MARAKBAR but is probably the best European 'chobi' drummer around. He also performs regularly with Zoireon soukous bands and, in a previous life, played in backing bands for many Flemish Top Ten singers. Danny De Cori has played in nearly all of Luk Misholle's projects over the last ten years. He has won the 'Jazz Hoeilaart' prize with his own jazz trio and has performed regularly with Zairean and Moroccan bands. Guy Segers has played in numerous groups. Some legendary, like UNIVERS ZERO, ART ZOYD and HENRY COW, ethers more obscure but nonetheless solid as a rock. Special guest with GALILEO'S LEFT WING will be TLP, free style rapper par excellence and half of RHYME CUT CORE, Belgium's top hip hop group. He too, is a member of MARAKBAR.
