Rabih Mroué belongs to the generation of Lebanese artists that came to prominence in the decade after the official end of the Lebanese Civil War in 1990. Rooted in the first-hand experience of political unrest and social upheaval still present in Lebanon today, Mroué’s work questions and examines the use of images, the mechanisms of storytelling and the construction of historical and personal narratives. His works have been exhibited at dOCUMENTA (13), Centra de Arte Dos de Mayo in Madrid, ZKM Frankfurt, Casino Luxemburg, Manifesta 8 and most recent at SALT Istanbul among others. For his first Swiss solo exhibition, a collaboration between Fri Art and BBI, Mroué has himself selected old and new video, installation and text works to open a thoughtful dialogue with the visitor.
