In this performed lecture the audience encounters the common ground shared by Sun Ra, the prophet Elijah, Parliament-Funkadelic and other unlikely protagonists. Posing as an anthropologist from the future, Kapwani Kiwanga reflects on some major themes in afrofuturism and their role in the development of the United States of Africa Space Agency. Plunging into the past to retrieve the archives of popular culture, Kiwanga uses science fiction to make projections about what lies ahead.
Still from “Space is the Place” a film by John Coney- 1973
