While developing his ideas about urban overpopulation in the seventies, Fribourg-based architect Jean Pythoud had dreamed up a project of dwellings under the Zaehringen bridge. Lx1-architects based in Lausanne-were invited to the Belluard last year as they persevere towards a plan to revitalize the urban landscape. Last fall they designed a temporary hotel nestled in the bridge's arches. Lx1 then surveyed the feasibility of the project and called upon the Belluard to find potential partners. With its public platform and a cafe, this hotel hovering above the Sarine river continues to fire our imagination.
